The Birfday Weekend

Cupcakes from the kids..                                                                       Massive pancakes with nice boys..
P6220009 P6220014 P6230031 P6240044
Synchronized surfing with the girls..                                             Opera House show with Canuck friends..

Does it get any better than that? I should note that after a month of no surfing because of dangerous winter weather, the conditions Saturday were "ripping". Sunshine, 8 footers, and no metal sea kayaks to crash into.
Also after the concert at the OH last night, there was a random massive fireworks display over the harbour. (Thanks, God.) Shots from the last weeks in Sydney here..

Lotsa Love!

Yes, That Would Be the Dalai Lama...

P6150012

Peace, Love, and Compassion from Sydney, Australia...
The DL was in town this week, and thousands braved this horrific downpours and freezing winter winds to hear him speak in the Domain in the middle of the city. Really cool stuff. The guy is actually a bit of a comedian. He was followed up by Lior and Ben Lee performing... 2 of my favourite Aussie musos that I really wanted to see before leaving. Had a great Friday night out with Nay and Danny B, at Lindt (yes, the chocolate) Cafe, seeing Shrek III, and discovering a fantastic little Bohemian cafe with strawberry flavoured beer (the only kind I've been able to drink without gagging)...

Also made it out to the world renound Hillsong church last night. Absolutely massive place. About an hour outside Sydney but with a huge congregation and amazing media set up. And obviously amazing music.

Weather remains crappy, but enjoying the last few weeks with friends and prepping up for Rhonda and Kara's big arrival this weekend!

Cheers..

Happy Birthday, Queen Lizzy!

Yes, it's an Australian Holiday, not because it's actually the Queen's birthday today, but just because the Queen has a birthday and Australia needed a holiday in June. (Their Fathers Day is in September.. go figure.)

The last week I feel like I've been living in a hurricane. Literally. There has been nonstop rain, wind, and flooding everywhere. I walked through a downpour to the beach Saturday for a surf only to find they weren't even renting out boards because they were being snapped left and right out in the rips.

 To put things in perspective...

P6090001 P6090024 P6090006-1 P6110028

That last one is the remains of the massive stone wall next door that collapsed yesterday night, crushing the 2 cars parked next to it. Lucky no one was walking by on the sidewalk at the time.. yeesh.

Even more sobering is an older couple in their car being washed off a bridge last weekend. Their bodies were found yesterday.

Shortly after, a family of 5 was driving on a road which collapsed down a cliffside. The only thing that's been found is their empty car.

There's also a barge grounded in Newcastle right now with 700 tons of oil and fuel inside...

Massive stuff going on. Between that and the life-altering droughts here in summer, there's a huge respect and fear for the power of nature. If I hear one person back home complaining about the so-called "rain" of northwest, well... they've got another thing comin'.

That said, LESS THAN A MONTH till I am home!
Breeny's birthday this week, mine the next, Rhonda and Kara visiting the next, and home the next! Time's flying. Love to everyone..

Things I've Learned Lately.

Surfing Doesn't Come Without A Price.
Like when you're forced to choose between hitting two little boys with your board or ramming into the front of an aluminum sea kayak with your leg.

We look a lot better on the sand than we do in the water...

Another great Saturday morning surf with Nay and sunshine and some decent waves!
Also this week, a morning at the amazing Art Gallery of New South Wales, and a successful botox surgery for Noa to help her gain more use of her left hand.

Not much newsy news, but lots of pixy pix here!

Love to y'all..
